If you have asked this question you are on the right track to be a safe outdoor swimmer but it’s not a closed question with a simple answer so beware of yes and no answers. Why? Because safety is relative, especially outdoors.

    The short walk round the bay has excellent displays, telling the story of the herring industry on Barra. The bay was once filled with so many fishing boats that it was possible to walk across the bay, boat to boat, without getting your feet wet.
